PR changed?

Has anyone else noticed many site's PR had dropped for 1 during this dance? I see A LOT of sites that were PR 7 and are now 6, PR 6 now 5 and PR 5 now 4!

Maybe Google changed the "values" needed for a certain PR (need more quality links then before)?

Many sites have had their backlinks cut drastically within the last two dances. I'm guessing that this is why so many sites have droped in PR

Almost all of our sites dropped one PR notch even though backlinks increased.

Yes, but ever asked WHY all backlinks dropped? Most are speculating Google's problems have to do with it - what about change in the way PR is assigned? With (close to?) 4 bilion sites indexed maybe there were just too many high PRs? Google changes PR requirements, many sites drop in PR for 1 and the result is: sites that had PR4 now have PR3 and are not showing in backlinks.

Just an idea...

It is a direct result of all the backlinks that have been cut. My PR went down from 6 to 5 this go round.

I think c4 has a good theory there. I have lost 1-3 PR points and a client has dropped from PR2 to PR0.

Hasn't affected SERPs though. I am ranking #1 in my niche and embarrassingly #1 in unrelated SERPs that have coinciding words.

I've been unable to detect any real pattern thus far based on my own sites....except that the backlinks/SERP changes have had little effect.

Backlinks have dropped on some sites while PR has increased, and the reverse on other sites.

Rankings have remained broadly the same though: drops or gains of 1-4 positions in the results which I believe I can put down to recent updates on those sites.

I have not experienced the horror stories of sites going from #1 or first page to nowhere which I've seen posted around the net, thankfully!

Maybe the lower quality links have been dropped because they had such a small impact on ranking anyway and that is why SERP's have remained fairly stable?

I only see spammy results which many have pointed out in the usual bad neighborhoods (real estate, travel etc.)

Backlinks are not dropped...only google counts now backlinks from a PR 4 or higher,...and many people had backlinks on site with a lower PR

regards, hans

Just move your mouse pointer over the green bar and you will find message saying something like "PageRank is Google's measure of the importance of this page (5/10)"

X in "(X/10)" is the toolbar PR of the site.

wm_asia:
Yes, I know Google is showing only sites with PR4 or higher as the results of link:www.domain.com query (perhaps I didn't make that clear eventhough I said "sites that had PR4 now have PR3 and are not showing in backlinks.").
