PR 6 to PR 7 - How many links are needed?

I'm linkbuilding for www.schoolsintheusa.com. I got it up to a PR 6.

How many links does it take to move from a PageRank 6 to a PageRank 7? How long should it take to update from Google?

Thanks,

mwilliams

About five times the number you have

mwilliams,
you can achieve a PR 7 with just one link from a PR 8 page (although it depends on the strenghth of this PR8 and of the number of outgoing links from this page).
But you may not find such a link without paying for it.

Currently, you have a weak PR 6. You need about 5 more points if you want to achieve a PR 7. Currently Google displays about 200 backlinks for your site and you need some 800 more of the same average value.

It depends on de back links PR. If they are PR10 you will need no more than 1 or 2, if they are low PR you will certainly need much more. All this is relative, there are no fixed numbers...

Exactly! It all depends on how strong the links are.

I believe if you do it properly..in the long run you will see results...

You do need to follow many of the suggestions above as well, but DO NOT cut corners, it will come back to haunt you.

To be honest I see your site as a 0 PR and not indexed by Google yet. Am I missing something?

Like Chatmaster, I see only a grey bar. That is usually indicative that you have a new site, not yet indexed by Google.

That page is not showing a PageRank 6.

The link you provided is a redirect. Correcting for the URL, with and without the www, shows no PageRank at all.

In any case, you need to start on a link building campaign to build up your PageRank.

You have some PR5 internal pages. Your backlinks show internal site links, which are good. Now you need to add some backlinks from external sites.

http://www.schoolsintheusa.com/index.cfm PR6

http://www.schoolsintheusa.com. not indexed. the problem was in the posted url.

It's very informative site. Considering the site has lot of content, the best option to move from PR6 to PR7 is to spend some money on text links ads on some high PR sites.

I see a PR6 here as well. I think the posts on here saying that you do'n have any PR are looking only at the link which you posted that is a redirect. If one simply types the URL like this www.schoolsintheusa.com they ill see the PR for that domain is a 6 with 206 backlinks.

And to answer your original question: No one (except the folks at Google) knows for sure how many links it takes to move up in PR. Any comments are purely a guess, some perhaps are even an educated guess.

Just keep getting good quality links and you'll eventually move up. Of course, that's just my best guess!

Can PR be calculated that precisely? If so, can I calculate total link value/PR for my competition and get a guage for what I need to do to outrank them?

You can do it with 1000+ backlinks from average PR pages.

So if you can get 100 backlinks for pr9 sites.... that is better than getting 10000 sites from pr4 sites. Now, how to do this without paying for it.... theres gotta be sites out there that do not even know what a pr is...
