PageRank patent is granted to Stanford University
You can see it here:
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...RS=PN/6,285,999 this could be a reason why google not rely on it too much otherwise Stanford university may charge them a lot how about your opinion? |

This issue was raised during the Florida Update - ie, that Google were dropping the original PageRank algo in preparation for stock flotation.

IIRC Stanford is one of the shareholders in which case I doubt it'd affect Google at all. Regards, S |

From Google's S-1 IPO statement, p.77:
"The first version of the PageRank technology was created while Larry and Sergey attended Stanford University, which owns a patent to PageRank. The PageRank patent expires in 2017. We hold a perpetual license to this patent. In October 2003, we extended our exclusivity period to this patent through 2011, at which point our license is non-exclusive. " |
