PageRank distribution and back linking

Hi all,

I hope you can help me here, I'm trying to clear up a few gaps in my knowledge.

My own site has got me really confused lately.

Basically, our index page has a PR of 4. Only 1 other page (About Us) has got a PR, and it is 3.

I am confused as to why none of the other pages on the site have a PR at all. They dont have back links to them but then again, the index page only has 2.

This is another thing I am confused about.

I have many subdomains in the form (www.blue-widget.mydomain.com). Each has different content on it with regard to the initial page.

From competitors, I can see these should count as back links, but since they don't have a PR, is their value going to be affected?

I think my problems stem from Google incorrectly distributing PR around my site. Trouble is, Im not sure what Im doing wrong.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I can PM or post a URL if appropriate.

Kind regards,

Martin

google's backlink tool is broken and only shows some backlinks. (usually some of the links which have a PR4 or greater)

many many many links add to pagerank and link popularity even if they do not show in the Google backlinks check. AllTheWeb's backlinks check is more in depth than Google's.

Google have never shown backlinks below pr4 (at least in the 3 years I've been doing this) but I'm not sure it's "broken"!

No chance of any help without a url really, maybe you should post the url and ask for a site review in the appropriate section (site reviews)

Is there anyway to check for backlinks under PR4?

Won't that only return the pages that has your URL in clear text?
There should be an 'insource:' command

there are plenty of sites that will check your backlinks for free, one of them is found at http://www.linkpopularity.com/ for example
