PageRank Calculator
I have created, using proposed algorithms found on the net, a PageRank Calculator. It is a minor tool which may be able to give a slight insight into pagerank (given the algorithms are correct).
Does this forum allow one to post about such free tools that are created by the poster or is that considered self-promotion? Last edited by bling : September 7th, 2004 at 08:07 PM. |

It's close... but not quite there. i'm pretty sure that 2 PR8 and 2 PR9 backlinks will definately give you a PR8.
I tryed one of my sites as an example to see. It was close but no quite correct I beleive. I would say with these kinds of links I would have a PR8 and not PR7: Number of pages linking to target page. PR 1 - 0 PR 2 - 210 PR 3 - 350 PR 4 - 625 PR 5 - 120 PR 6 - 17 PR 7 - 7 PR 8 - 2 PR 9 - 1 PR 10 - 0 This page would have a Google PageRank of 7.

Here's the link for my PageRank Calculator. Note though, the algorithm is still being worked on, is just an estimate AND will get more accurate in time.

Do these counts include internal links from my own domain or just external links coming in?

I just used this tool for four of my sites..... two of them were right on and two were one unit lower on the tool.
Looks like it ballparks nicely.

I think the best use of this tool would be in the planning stages of determining "how much" is needed to launch into a competitive position. One of my sites has about 100 unique PR5 links and roughly 200 unique PR0-3 links: the tool says I get PR6, which is where it is...good catch.
It also might be something to add to the newbie checklist, especially for the "how many links do I need" questions. One consideration...how are you calculating additional links that may be on those sites linking to you? I'm assuming that you are using some sort of fixed percentage of PR passing -- it might help to tweak the tool a bit more to allow the user to enter the # of other outgoing links (then again, it might make it too cumbersome). What are you using for the exponential factor between levels and what are you using as the average links on a page?

I think he's basing it on Compars graph, but not sure.

Question:
How can this be accurate if multiple links dilute from the same site AND depends on the amount of links on a page. There is a big difference between 15 PR6 homepage links than 15 PR6 links from one site in my book. Just askin' |

It's just a ballpark figure. It is built with "Keep it Simple" technology. The original equation took into account an average of 50 links on a page. If your backlink pages have less links you can expect the number to increase. Perhaps that could be an additional variable to be put in? |
