Pagerank Calculation
How long does it take Google to do the Pagerank calculation? Isn't the calculation what causes the dance?

The dance is the period in which the new updated database is distributed between all of the Google Datacenters!! Pagerank is calculated BEFORE the dance.
Almost immediately after a dance, the Googlebot goes and does its searching, then those pages are put through about 50 iterations (if i'm not mistaken) of the Pagerank calculation etc.. For 3 billion pages, this equates to minimum of 150 billion separate calculations, thats bound to take a while, we don't know how long exactly though .. then the dance begins!! Remember, we don't work for Google, so we don't know exactly how it workd, we are making our own conclusions based on research and experience.

Thanks Darrin. I feel a bit better knowing that pagerank and deepcrawl happen immediately following the dance.
It explains why my Yahoo listing (received it mid-December) isn't showing as a backlink. It also explains why all of my optimization efforts performed in mid-December haven't helped my position. It looks like I'll have to wait for the February dance. Thanks again for the info. |

If convergence occurs before 50 iterations, does the calculations stop? If convergence occurs after 50 iterations, does the calculation resume at the 50th iteration the next month. Or does the calculation start at 0 iteration the next month?
Thanks - twins.fan |

I'm pretty such that it's a complete restart a 0 the next month - this would be the most effective way.
If it took over at 50, then long time running sites would have a clear advantage over their newer counterparts. |

Are most PR calculations supposed to converge by the 50th iteration? It seems that sites with "high popularity" who are colinked with other sites of high popularity would not converge within 50 iterations.
I am not sure of the math. Just wondering - twins.fan |
