PageRank and BackLinks

Has anybody done any correlation between PageRank of a webpage and its backlink pages?

For example, find all of its backlinks from Google to a specific page. Note the PageRank of each of those pages and the number of links on that page. Then take those results and see what the correlation is.

There may be no correlation if Google hides some of the backlinks.

If you read up on PR you will find that everybody who has written about it has done this - all authority sources (including google) specifically state that pr is absolutely calculated by backlinks.
There are many links in these forums to sites that will show you the exact details of the correlation and the methods used to calculate "pr inheritance".

The fact that google doesn't show you all of the backlinks they have listed does not stop them from using those backlinks in their calculation of your pr.

My words must not have been chosen ideally.

It's a given that PR is based on backlinks. What I am looking for is for a set of sites with all of the backlinks listed along with the PR of the backlinks AND the number of links on each backlink page.

Many note that Google does not show all backlinks. However with the subset that they do show, can the PR for the target page be calculated and a correlation shown?

Considering PR of the backlink pages and number of link on that page, it should be possible to do some prediction of PR.

I do not those programs, which predict PR, consider number of link in link pages, probabaly they consider only PR of link pages.

New Tool?

I am thinking of creating a tool that fetches the number of backlinks and the number of outgoing links on each page. For bandwidth reasons I would have to limit it to count the links on the first 20 or so pages and/or make one register to use it. Worthwhile for anybody?

PR is logarithmic, so a strong PR7 can have 5 to 8 times more back links that a weak PR7. One the other hand personally I suppose google don't take into account all back links from the same domain for the PR calculation even if they are counted as back links (I have a PR4 site with 1830 back links from about 3 domains and several PR5 with 10 to 30 back links only but from different sites). Consider also that google only show 'samples' back links and you will easily see that it is impossible to do what you want.

I definitely would argue that Google DOES take all Backlinks from the same domain without diminishing them. PageRank is specific of one page, not a domain.
For example my main page http://www.thinkbling.com is a PR4 page, my download page http://www.thinkbling.com/scripts.php is a PR5 page. They pass their PageRank regardless of the other pages.

Do you disagree?

What I want to say is if you have 500 back links from the same domain google will not count all of them for the PR calculation. At least this is what I see for my sites...

I would be willing to bet that it does count them all. However, Google will not show all of them from one domain when you search for them.

How do you know? There could be many PR0 pages, that although the count only a little, they still have weight.

Like I said based on my observations. 1350 visible BL from the same site and the page is a PR3 now when it was PR6 before. I think some of these links got devaluated, don't you think. I can do a PR3 with only one link from my site. Went from 10 to over 300 BL on an other site and no change in PR because the 300 links are from the same place.

I have over 1000 posts here if you noticed, that's a few links.
A bunch of the posts must be archived and stripped from the sigs links, plus only one sig per page, but a few 100s are still showing in my backlinks. Too bad they are not worth much anymore... compared to 2 updates ago.
