Minimum PR for Reciprocal Links
I believe having read in this forum that Google does not "count" inward links on pages with PR3 or less.
In other words it's a waste of time to exchange links with other sites if they place a return link on a page with PR3 or less. It's got to be minimum PR4 to benefit your own site. Is this info correct? If so, is it confirmed by Google, or just rumour?

Is the column marked "Links" meant for the number of links on the page? Or the number of back links which Google states the site has?

It means the number of links the page has on it...

it is not a waste, but it will not help as much as a PR 4 site. A backward link from a PR 3 site is not shown when you do link:www.domain.com, but it is counted in the algorithm. |

Thanks for the useful input Asher02 and Izzetz...
Yes I'd also like to know the answer to Asher02's last question; is there a net gain or loss to me when my PR4 link page trades with the other site's PR2-3 links page? |

Respectfully, Balonya
Forget PR. It's only one of numerous factors in the algo and do a recip link + keyword rich description to any site that enhances your visitors experience/value, fits your site, and is quality. Natch, don't swap with link farms, and other types of Spamola. Sites are bult for our guests + SE + money. You need all three in the sandwidch Perhaps I'm confused but I find no evidence to support the claim that low PR sites are not showen in your back links. Both the listing and the number appear to show but then again I could be wrong and I'm to lazy to navigate numerous pages to see if the listings equal the number. Even if this is true, PR change, sites improve, and you enhance your brand with your "name" on other sites which are appropriate. Edit: My last thoughts on PR in the following thread: http://www.seochat.com/viewtopic.php?p=4919#4919 |

I agree that it wouldn't be a waste, especially if it helps you get people to your site. Also, I don't think I would be so hasty to back away, some low PR pages are simply "new" and by default easy to get a link. Given time, a month or two, they may be up to a PR4 or 5, then you may not find hopping on board so easy? just a thought, things change so fast now, a dog may be a prince next year.

Just had to voice that yes, I do look at a site's PR for an exchange BUT I also look more at content and what it will do for my site's visiors (helpful, etc)
PR, IMO, is just getting way overrated these days.So what if you have a PR7+ site..do you have visitors? As we've seen, you can have a high PR site yet be beat out by lower PR sites due to better content/optimizing You have to weigh and balance it all, but in the end, I wouldn't turn away a site exchange due to poor PR unless they were banned

i would like to offer a YES for the same reason stated above. I have traded links with sites that had PRO and could tell they were a new site and as expected they acheived a PR5 and 6 the next month. So in other words you never know how well a site will rank in the comming months although you need to use good judgement because as i have seen sites that are of NO use to anyone ie. daralic sites.

You welcome Fred
I forgot to mention something after I reviewed your site and please don't take my comments the wrong way. I'm here to help with civil and respectfull comments. Your site uses links4trade.com which appears to be a third party and what I would consider to be a "bad neighborhood" I would respectfully suggest that you not use them as Google and many webmasters are unlikely to be happy campers over this kind of link farm. Create pages on your own site which include a link and description of other sites. Spawn a new window with the link and seed the listing with a few sites. Insure that this page branches from at least your home page. You could also automate this to some exstent via a neat little Directory script which builds static pages and is darn good. See: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/links/index.htm <Note: I have no connection with the above script/company Good luck! |
