Links in DIV
We have some sites linking back to us with DIV tags and our links appear inside these DIV tags in html. Are the links inside these tags are similar to javascript links which are not recognized by google. If anybody have answer to this it will be highly appreciated.

Bottom right under "Partner sites" http://www.upperhost.com I think this is similar to what your referring to and they count, but again without proper reference we couldnt tell you for sure, we'd just be guessing, can you please post the link?

Hello.
div elements are a used to structure the content in css websites. Your links are most likely ok.

There is nothing to worry about with <div> tags. Your links will count as long as they are direct links to your site and not through a redirect script.

Thanks for all your replies. We have listings on following pages http://www.elib.org/dire/15/1.php and http://sbd.bcentral.com/3269.aspx. The elib.org page used to be PR7 and now it is PR0, I think they have changed the name of the page and have started using PHP to serve directory pages. It may get a PR6 in the next update. I was wondring if these links will pass on any PR to our website. Thanks for all you help.

Actually i made a post about this in the Optimization forum yesterday. A site with excellent PR and rankings has 100's of backlinks from every page on a blog site, but there wasn't a clickable link on any of the 100's of pages. Upon viewing the source showed why, the code used is... Code:
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" background="background.gif"> <div align="center"> <p><a href="http://www.sitewithPR.com/"></a> </p> </div> This is the first piece of code on the page, and as you can see it's within Div tags, PLUS has no anchor text. It's definately counting as (a few hundred) backlinks and PR is being passed on. |
