linking
lets say I have 10 websites. what's the best way to link them together in order to achieve the highest PR possible? I have 1 inbound PR6 link to site1 and sites 2 - 10 don't have any inbound links. they are all on the same ip. would i make much difference to pr to move them to different ip's? any reply much appreciated. thanks. tim

I don't know anything about your websites - so any answer that I post here could be totally wrong for your goals. It would also take much more time to learn enough about your sites to give good advice than I am able to give. However, before you consider linking your sites together you should first consider how they are linked internally. To optimize the impact of inbound links you must first manage the PR from within.
There are almost unlimited ways of doing this and a small number of those ways yield results that are many time more powerful than others. The strategy that you develop should be based upon the pages that you want to promote and the pages that are supporting documents. These optimum linkages frequently are contrary to the customs of site design. After you have optimized your PR from within, then is the time to decide where you want to pump in power from the inbound links and where the source of that donated power should come from. Your positions in the SERPs should be a key element in these decisions. A webmaster can work his/her *** off writing content, building pages, getting links, doing all manner of work - but if these principles are not understood and applied then all results are left to chance. The webmaster who hopes to defeat his/her competition must learn and apply these things. Any webmaster who is not doing this is just farting around - even though he/she is spending lots of time and effort on everything else. In my opinion this is one of the most challenging aspects of SEO, and many people blow it off - because developing a good strategy for a large website requires a person to think - deeply and long. For me pencil and paper is required because my mind is not stong enough to hold all elements in focus. Here is one of the document that I have studied over and over - and I have on many occasions spent hours working at the PR calculator to learn about optimizing my internal linkage. None of this time has been wasted. It is one of the most important things that I have done and will continue to do. http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html I would like to learn much more about this.... If anyone knows of additional good sources of this information please share them in this thread. Last edited by EGOL : July 22nd, 2003 at 11:59 AM. |

Have fun ... I've been reading and re-reading this about 2-3 weeks, and I'm only beginning to understand how damn smart PR actually is (or maybe I'm just going nuts...)... |

2K - I've read it and it has lots of good information. It's a little heavy for me in a few places but rereads will help me understand it.
We will defeat those who are not motivated enough to pay these dues. Thanks for pointing it out to me. |

There is one addition I must make to your internal PR statement that you left out egol, you must (and I repeat must) get some value of PR from an external source before integrating your internal structure. Get a value of 10 pumped in and play with it until you make it a 30, but a big fat 0 for PR weight due to o inbound links you cannot benefit from a savvy internal structure as there is nothing to augment. Remember PR works like a focal lense, that if utilized apropiatly can add 85% of itself to itself and 85% of that which it added until x approached 0
