Is PR affected by IP changes?
I have several domains hosted on different servers located both in Romania and US. I want to move all of them on a single server, but I'm not sure how this will affect the PR that each site already has in Google.
Does anyone has any idea about how Google behaves when the IP of a certain domain changes? I don't want to risk anything because the sites have "suffered" long campaigns for their promotion and especially for a good poosition in Google. |

It won't affect your PR, but you may find yourself out of the index for a while if you're not careful. Check this thread ...

I cannot follow that advice because I do not have control over the DNS to create a DNS balance on these servers.
Although my boss will be angry at me for not moving the domains when he planned to, I will risk that in order to keep the PR gained. |

You must have some control over DNS to be able to change to a new IP. But that's all you need to change, just don't delete the pages from the old IP until you're sure Google has found you on the new one - that's the basic advice.ç

Yes, some control I have. But what's the use of it when the servers are virtual servers defined on Apache? When you remove the domain name from the DNS, there's no access to the website.
Anyway... how long could Google keep in it's cache the names |

If we're talking about how long the DNS information is cached, then we might be looking at 2 months, or possibly more .. although that seems like a lot a nobody really knows. I would imaging that everytime you notice the dance is particularly long (over 30 days), then the reason is this time round they spent a bit more time doing the DNS lookup for each site. I'd make the changes now as this hasn't happened for the last 2 updates, might happen this time round!

I'm very iunterested in this subject, but the above link is useless. Can you offer a working link, or the thread title for a search? Cheers. |
