Is DMOZ entry necessary

Is having your site in the DMOZ open directory required in-order to get a good Google page rank? Our site got removed from DMOZ six months ago for no apparent reason and we have been trying ever since to get it relisted but so far no luck. Could this explain why Google currently ignores most of our site?

Thanks,
Nick

Having your site indexed in the ODP is one big step for PR, but it also helps google determine the category of your website, which is very important.

If not in ODP how can you tell what page rank it is?

Nick

The ODP does'nt tell you the PR, it may help you increase yours. To check out your PR, install the google toolbar with advanced features.

FYI, your site can be in Google without Dmoz.

Dmoz can increase your PR but many sites don't qualify.

who really cares about PR anyway?

It does not affect in a substantive way your placement on SERPs (except in rare instances) and only assures a more frequent revisit by fresh and deep bot.

DMOZ gets you into the google directory, as well as so many other directories that use dmoz results. It's free, I can't imagine it not being worth the effort. It's a sure fire way to get spidered.
