All,
I'm wondering what's the best way to get PR to my index page? At the moment, my links to my homepage are to the domain in full, but wouldn't it be better to have my links point to the domain and page, like so? http://www.my-domain.com/index.htm After all, PR is about pages, not domains. Thanks! ![]() |

Don't do it!!
Links to yourdomain.tld are effectively links to your index page. If you link to your index page specifically then you will dilute your page rank a little for that page. Make sure all of your links to that page are to the domain not the actual index page. I've done that and the index page shows up well in serps. |

Not necessarily. You do get an overall PR for your domain. |

Hello, Could you please explain the concept of overall Page Rank or post a link to an article or a tutorial.

What I meant by overall PR is that once your homepage gets it's PR, usually after 2 updates, than your inbound pages that link from the index page carry a large amount of PR from the homepage. So you necessarily dont have to get inbound links to every page just your homepage and you'll have an overall PR that gets passed on through-out the site without much work on your part.
Nothing really new but alot of users freak out when they are told they need links to all their pages when they really dont. You can easily play around with your internal links and get the same results. |

I'd recommend what VORD recommended based on my own experience.

Ok, what about the reverse? My accounting dictionary (www.ventureline.com/glossary.asp) has a pr6 and my home page a pr5, does my home page benefit from the pr6 of that internal page?

If it's linking back to the homepage than YES!. I would bet that your glossary page has more incoming PR links than your homepage does.
No one ever said that your homepage has to have more links or that everyone needs to link to it. If users are finding the glossary page more useful, which they are, than it's no surprise it valued as a more important page. There are a few examples of sites like these online so you are not alone. |
