I have a script to trade links on my site. I received a link trade request today, and since I didn't have a good place to put it in, I created a new category ( a new page was created for it), and placed it there. I went back to check that the link was working, and the page I created has a PR2! How is this possible?
The page is http://www.submitte.com/links/index.php?cid=47 ![]()

Google is treating all you pages with the URL of http://www.submitte.com/links/index.php as the same. It is not distiguising between the pages based on the URL param.
CORRECTION: It appears to recognize the existing pages as different ... they are all indexed individually. But, whenever you use an invalid param, the google toolbar is just defaulting to the PR of the base page without the param. Maybe the PR database doesn't hold all variations of URLs with params? Care to explain that in plain English? I'm not much of a PHP guy
Why would it tread all my pages as one, if they are gettin indexed? Here is a cache of an older page http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cach...Fcid%3D3+&hl=en ![]() |

Sorry - plain english version: I'm not sure why it is doing it but I am sure that any page that starts with http://www.submitte.com/links/index.php?cid= is being displayed in toolbar as having PR2 ... and I am sure that only ones in the google index really have a PR of 2. The others are really PR0 since they are not even in the google index (when using a new/fictitious parameter like 9999).
I have seen lots of strange things related to PR toolbar value and URLs with dynamic paramters. In my own tests I am not getting consistent results and have yet to find an explanation that would explain the situations I am seeing. So, net result: For the pages in cache that have a PR being displayed ... the PR is probably valid. For those not it cache, it is not real PR being displayed. But hey, for a link exchange directory you've got it made ... make 1,000,0000 pages right now and they will all show as PR2 and you can probably sell them for $10,000 on linkadage |

Well, I would rather put a link on each one of them pointing to another of my websites... I could turn it into PR8! Any more opinions on this? Any other cases? |

a good way to test if you're seeing a "real PR" would be to see if the page is actually cached
the one you mentioned in your first page isn't. it's "digging" that PR up from another page, ie one without the ? parameters.

No, it isn't cached since I just created it a few hours ago.
So, this means that the billions of dollars that Google has invested in their PR system are just BS? |

More that the toolbar is "quick and dirty" in how it looks up PR. Regards, S |

the point is: if it's not cached, then the PR you're seeing is bogus. it's not accurate. |

Pr
Can anyone advise if there are different versions of Google Toolbar? Are some showing different PR than others? Where would you download the latest if there are different versions?
What about the next overALL PR update? I've heard they are only going to update PR on quarterly basis now? Anyone else know or hear? I have a PR6 front page but everything else is Zero. Erich |

It's just the different datacenters the toolbar gets their values from. Try plugging your URL in this tool and it will query all the different datacenters and show the PR returned from each. http://www.webmasterbrain.com/upcom...ool--tool11.htm |

If you create a new thread it gets a PR3 instantly, however the PR value is bogus. I just thought this was because of their high PR on the main .com so if this occurance is a new thing on you site it may be an indication you will go up a notch next update, who knows. I hope for your sake this is true. Do you have a fairly high main page Fryman? Last edited by bangbang : June 14th, 2004 at 10:53 AM. |
