Inbound Links from Forums

Anybody know what Google thinks about inbound links from Forums?

This is probably a stupid question, but if inbound links are important to your placement and PageRank in Google, what would stop someone from signing up in 100s of forums and providing links to their web page?

I haven't noticed people doing this, so I'm guessing it is not an effective strategy?

from what I know previously Google so as others just ignore inbound links from forums... I believe they treat them in different way. But now after Google change it's algo I've spot few links from several communities where I have links to my site, but they come only from few posts not from whole forum. Don't sure why they allow links from forums to appear since it could encourage people to do as you said, by signing up for new forum accounts and posting link everythere. So I guess that it will not last for long and after next dance or dance after it they will gone again.

just wish to add that links from main pages of forums was counted all the time, before algo change as well. only links from posts were filtered.

sorry to hear that, I told what I know, I believe that it's not influence much on SE but could bring you some people directly.
if someone know more on this subject I would be glad to hear deeper explanation of this issue as well.

A little communication barrier there. Nick meant that creating inbound links from forums doesn't seem to help, not that your advice was bad my friend! :-D
