Improve Page Rank

Some one told me that you can improve your website page rank by contributing to forums.

I've been told that you need your actual post to be on a page with rank, however although this forum has rank up to a point no actaul post entries seem to have page rank.

Are spiders even getting to this post for instance and how can this be improved....your help as ever is appreciated?

Please help me out

Donna is correct.

You have to get your site included in DMOZ first.

After that DMOZ inclusion, Google accepts a dump of links from DMOZ. It then is up to Google to include them in the Google Directory.

Sometimes that takes months.

I had a blog included in DMOZ in April. It took Google until a November Google Directory update to include it in their directory listings.

Google Directory can be very very slow.

They have humans editors that have a novel of guide lines and do it for free.
Some cathegories are up to date but some have lots of requests.
People will try to get in games instead of card games because games has a higher PR...
If games is overloaded, tuff luck, specially if you should have been in card games, just shot yourself in the foot.

It can take a long time to get listed in DMOZ, it isn't necessary to be in googles directory to improve your PR substantially.

One of the most important considerations with DMOZ is applying to the correct category. The editors appear to have little sympathy for a site submission sent to the wrong category.

An editor once told me, that sites submitted to the wrong category, was one of the main reasons inclusions are slow. The editors aren't going to spend hours, finding the right category on behalf of a webmaster who submitted to a higher category, than was warranted by the website content.

I am not in any way defending the actions of DMOZ, merely describing them. their guidelines are very important to them and the guidelines must be followed very carefully. The editors are not going to make an exception, just because the webmaster thought they should.

I always recommend searching through the categories very carefully. Select the most appropriate one, regardless of its PageRank, and your application will be speeded up considerably.

I've been told by a Dmoz editor that it can take up to 2 years before you get listed. All depends on the category and how many pending they have. For the most part, especially if its a shopping category, don't hold your breath.

This is true. Basically an editor has two options when editing. Simply delete the site that was applied stating the reasons or search his bottom of for the appropriate category and then forwarding it to the ed in that catagory.

Guys editors do go throught the actual content and will not allow you in a cat you do not belong in, that is the bottom line. In all fairness, why would your site be so special to convince the ed to set double standards just for you? In my case it will not happen (Not on pupouse anyway). I feel that we all put a specific amount of effort into the design of a site and your efforts will get rewarded accordingly.
