If I get a link from a PR8 page, am I guaranteed a PR7?

I'm not sure exactly how this works...
Let's say my site has 0 backlinks. I then get 1 link from a PR8 page. Would this boost my PR to 7?

My guess is no...

How about this one. My PR is actually already a 6. If I get 1 link from a PR8 page would this boost my PR to 7?

my guess is yes...

What do you guys think? I'm trying to figure out if the links on this guy's PR8 page are transfering PR to those sites already linked on his page, but I need to know the above to figure it out. Thanks!

Brad

No it doesn't guarentee you a 7.
If you are a strong 6 then it should just nudge you into the 7 boundery, but again, it is not guarenteed.

there is a formula which I don't have handy now but it is some thing like if PR8 is linking to many other side you will get less PR and if PR 8 is linked with only you and some other you will get more marks. This formula was in same formus. Please look for it I have print out at work if you could't find let me know

It's supposed to be about :

i see nadeem has graduated from the 'question asking' phase of seo school and has moved on to the 'advice distributing' level.

[i thought a comprehendible signature was at least one of the prerequisites for graduation.]
whos running this place?
[pr8 and they lose total control.]

What do you do with the number that you are left with?

Example:

PR 6 link with 5 links...

(6*.85)/5=1.02

But what do you do with the 1.02?

It can't be that 10 of those links would mean 1.02*10 to equal a PR of 10.

So what is the next step in calculating the PR outcome?

I just read that it might be that the number equals something like 1-10 would be a PR of 1, 11-100 would be a PR of 2, 101-1000 would be PR of 3... is this accurate?

Doing the math, that doesn't seem right. I guess I'm missing a piece of the puzzle here.

I have an internal with a pr8, pr7, pr6's, and a slew of lesser pr's linking in with no links out except to my other pages. My internal page is a pr6. I guess G just doesn't like me. Where is my pr7? I think we are all still just guessing on the G algo.

Actually, I am still holding out hope we are close on the basics of the algo.

Let's use a base factor of 6 for the exponential formula of PR. The actual numbers are not so important, but to make the discussion easier I am going to give actual numbers to the PR's:

PR1 = 2
PR2 = 12
PR3 = 72
PR4 = 432
PR5 = 2,592
PR6 = 15,552
PR7 = 93,312
PR8 = 559,872

If the PR8 link page was say 700,000 with 45 total links on the page, the PR7 was 300,000 with 35 total links on the page, the PR6 was 44,000 with 20 total links on the page, then your page would be receiving:

(700,000 *.8 / 45) + (300,000 *.8 / 35) + (44,000 *.8 / 20) = 12,444 + 6856 + 1760 = 21,060

A solid PR6 ... but nowhere close to a PR7. It seems many people are only thinking external links count when determining PR flow, but remember, it is ALL links on the page that you must divide the PR into. Also, a high PR# vs. a low PR# makes a world of difference and unfortunately there is no way to know if it is a low/mid/high PR#.

It would be great if you would go to those inbound linking pages and count the total links on each page and post the numbers here so we can validate our understanding of the pagerank algo.

Hope that helps.
