If a page has been spidered, must it have a PR?
This one is a bit tricky for me to describe (since I probably don't have the standard language everyone uses in this forum - I'm a newbie).
If a page has been spidered and shows up in google, should it necessarily have a PR ( 0 - 10 )? Or is this a separate process? We've recently implemented (about a month ago) a php based content management system and I notice some strange things. 1. http://www.theworkinggroup.ca has a PR of 5 but http://www.theworkinggroup.ca/index.php has no PR 2. Sub pages of http://www.theworkinggroup.ca have PR 0 I know the pages are not optimized at all, I just am wondering if the content management system is getting in the way of the PR. Is the reason that the subpages have no PR because the navigation links point to folders and not to full link URI's? Thanks for any advice, Dom |

Tried to look at the source code but it looks like it's blocked. So I can't look if you use text links of what. If your home link structure is not connecting to your pages with a text link or a picture that bots can follow, they won't be found. If the pages are frequently crawled, for more than 3 updates, then I'd look for bad code that turns off the bots and stuff like this. |

'Merci beaucoups' Joceyln, I'm not sure why you weren't able to get the source code..Try getting source code using Firefox or another browser - sometimes I find IE has problems. Maybe this problem is turning off the bots.. BUT.. google HAS indexed the subpages in the site...it's just that they have no PR. There's nothing all that fancy with the code. Here are the top level links on the site: <ul> <li class="aboutTwg"><a href="http://www.theworkinggroup.ca/about">about the working group</a></li><li class="business"><a href="http://www.theworkinggroup.ca/business">business</a></li><li class="researchTeam"><a href="http://www.theworkinggroup.ca/scienceResearch">science & research teams</a></li><li class="communityOrg"><a href="http://www.theworkinggroup.ca/community">community organizations</a></li></ul>Thanks for your help and interest.Dom |

Hi Dom
1/ Your homepage will usually aquire PR first so it's not unusual to get a PR5 homepage and no PR internally. Give it a bit of time and it should pass through the site. 2/ Your CMS system seems fine. It's normally the way the links are renderred in some CMS systems that causes problems but yours seems OK (although I've only had a brief look). 3/ http://www*theworkinggroup*ca and http://www*theworkinggroup*ca/index.php are classed as two completely seperate pages by Google. I would suggest pointing all your homepage links to the full URL without the index.php as you may get a duplicate content penalty if it indexes both pages. 4/ A sitemap linked from your hompage with a full listing of you site could help |
