Hulkster's PR7 Homepage

Hulkster,

I was going to send you a PM, but I figure others could learn as well. I visited your site and poked around a little. I wanted to hear what tactics you have done to get your PR, especially with backlinks, etc. What has worked well, and what not so good?

Site I am working on is stuck with a PR5 (whole industry appears to be), so even getting me up to a PR6 I think will help get us ahead. I've been working on internal anchor keyword links, but deeper links drop under PR4. I have also been working a little on getting more offsite backlinks.

It's very simple - Hulk SMASH!!!! ;-)

Seriousely, I don't have any great ideas for you - the page has been around for a long time, and there actually is a bit of useful and/or funny (?) content on the site, so people end up linking to it for all sorts of bizzarre things. This is especially true for image linking, which can be kinda hard on the bandwidth bills. I might also mention that a few things have shown up on seedy/porno type sites, and I'm an old-fart married family man, so I tend to block those if I see 'em.

I've never bought a link and don't do link exchanges or anything like that, although I do simple things like my signature below. Nor do I do any of the "black hat" stuff that I see people talk about - I'm a "white hat" Sysadmin in real life and things are just better if you follow the rules ... plus I think highly of Google.

I guess it was more a "build it and they will come" thing that just happened over time - I think I've said this a number of times, but SEO is a hobby of mine (that I spend wayyy too much time on!) so I'd actually appreciate any of the real pro/guru's around here to comment on the Hulkster's personal home page

alek

P.S. There happens to be a "SEO test" link on my home page , but that will go away after the next PR/BL update, since I set this up in exchange for asking people to read (and consider contributing) about using their Google Toolbar to help the Folding@Home Project

you have some decent backlinks from a fair amount of forum participation, a link from penn state (oddly enough I live in state college), a listing in dmoz that is mirrored in the google directory and this is your most important backlink that i could see

they link to your personal site for developing lpinfo...
