Unfortunatley you won't see any increase in your Google back links straight away.
They will show when Google does its trawl through the sites.
Only then relevent links will show PR 3 and above I could be wrong, I am a bit of a neewbie.

I agree. The easiest way to build links is the old fashioned way. I guess whether or not this is feasible depends on your business. You can get the word out about your business by writing editorials, sending out press releases or having a write up about your business in your local paper.

I like to know the details of "old fashion style" as far as I know you must have a large contents on your site to have a high PR

So try to put your link on those regular scrolling web pages.

As far as I know, the old-fashioned way used to be to send mails to the webmasters appreciating their 'wonderful and useful' sites, telling them that you have already added their links to your site, that the link swap is going to be beneficial to both the parties, and then asking them to reciprocate to the links you added.

The other part of it, as you pointed out, is to add lot of useful cotent or even tools and utilities, and poeple will either link to you straightaway, or send you mails asking you to swap links. You can call the shots then.

It's still in fashion. In fact, it pays tremendoulsy in the long run.

He really didn't say anything...just a little bit of text and some signature links. Then again, I could just be getting really sensitive to this kind of thing.

There's a really good thread about reciprocating links elsewhere in the forum...I think it was started by "mamma"; search for it by username -- you'll probably get a lot out of approaching, reciprocating, withdrawing links, etc.
