How is this PR4?
check this out:

This site used to have hundreds of back links... it's listed in the yahoo directory..... Used to be PR5

After the florida update - all links have dissapeared from Google - When to a PR0 and Now back to a PR4...

How the heck could this site be a PR4 - with no backlinks?

i have seen pr4 with no visible googley backlinks before.
lots of pr3 and pr2 pointing at it.

No, that search will just show links from PR4 pages and above, not misleading if you know this.

The problem in finding them comes if the link text on the linking site is not the URL
ie. "Get your ice cream here" unless you know the link text and it is something unique you will have a hard time finding them on Google

i think it more of a prioritization issue.
otherwise...there would be too many 'puny' sites to wade through in the results.

First of all this site has backlinks from this forum itself which itself has some good PR.
Next this site has many backlinks from pages having PR less than 4.
For accurate information you can go to www.uptimebot.com

Anyway it needs patience to get PR4 from PR0. I am thinking of adding a backward link to this guy. 8)

you don't need to be PR4+ to COUNT; ie PR3 or less still gets credit as a link. it just doesn't show on a link: search.

Does this mean that Google is counting these as backlinks, although it doesn't show on a backlink count? For one of my websites I have a backlink count of 111, however, the results that contain the phrase are 634! If many of these get a nice PR update, it will sure give me a nice boost.

it's been thought that they count in the serps for PR, but not for anchor text bonuses (obviously).

(those that just have plain text of the domain/url, but it isn't actually hyperlinked)

those that are an actual link do count, yes.

I have no idea if it does count or not. I wouldn't be surprised either way
