But the original pagerank calculation is documented on-line somewhere, so I'll have a quick check on that.

Somewhere I once had a link to a page that simulated the calculation of PR based on the original formula (you can see the formula at Wikipedia as well as the above link) and that showed quite clearly that you need large increases in backlinks to move up each additional step in PR. But unfortunately I've lost it.

Everything I've ever read - which is probably too much - is that it is logarithmic. Now, what base that calculation is run in is the golden key. However, if your site is PR 3, don't PR 4, 5, 6, etc links help more than PR 3, 2, 1 links? The key is getting links from sites with higher PR values and not having to get quite so many, right?
