I'm sure its not that easy to just add something to the Google algorithm that automatically discredits blog links.
In time, they will probably do something about it. |

I just started blogging and was absolutely amazed at how many spam blogs there are. I am using Blogger, Google's own system and if you look at the log of recently updated blogs there is more smut and spam on there than I have ever seen in any SERP.
They should be ashamed to be hosting this crap. They need to clean their own house.

I agree, there is still a lot of crap out there in the blogs... but I have seen several cases where sites that ranked well by relying heavily on blog spams have been lowered in ranking dramatically. So, I think Google is doing something about it... but I'd say it's nearly impossible to stop everyone from black hat SEO...

I hope you're right callenb, blog spam has become an epidemic of collosal proportions in recent months and it is past time for a solution from G... Sadly - I agree - that blackhat seo's will continue to prosper for some time to come, but it seems there has been considerable movement in blocking doorway spamming recently so there's hope for us yet... It seems strange that they can't detect such obvious things as "noscript" tags and massive hidden text with huge keyword concentration - in some ways they do seem to be way behind the game

A bit out of topic, but still related to blogs...
I found a blog with PR7. It is a serious blog that discusses news events and has about 2000 backlinks. They are selling textlinks for $15 a month! Would a link on a blog help my website?

I believe they will help, I have seen a website got pr 7 and nearly all its backlinks are from blogs or wikis, but it droped to pr 6 when many spams were removed

Seems that many blogs (the serious ones, lets forget about spam for a while) are run by people with no finantial interests... I mean, 15 bucks for a PR7?? That would cost at least $100 on a website.
I think I will start browsing around and searching for good PR blogs to advertise on... do you know of any good directories where I can find some? |

I would not buy a link on a blog... it's just a matter of time that they will be worthless, if they are not already. I don't have links from blogs, so I can't say about their value but forums sig links have been devaluated a lot. My guess is, if they are not devaluated already, they are the next.

I do not agree, I have got some link's from some blog's because of some articles I wrote. I'm positive that these link's are a big reason I'm on page one for the moment for a competitive keyword in my country (SEO).
Google ain't able to tackle hidden text (background and fonts in same color, created by a amateur without CSS), he has been reported by several persons, still in the SERP. And he is not the only one not being banned. So I don't think they will be able to fight blog-spam in a while.. My 2 cents. |

I thought google was already removing blog back links? Wasnt there a story about this not too long ago, or was that for people who used blogger and not the other blog tools out there?

I would like to know if this is true. If so lots of people need to bail out of blogger. |

Are you guys saying that a post on a blog, containing a link with anchor text is a valuable backink? Are there any blogs with a high enough PR to count?
I have seen only two or three blogs, and they look pretty stupid. They would never make good reading. Are there any useful blogs? Where are they to be found? Regards Larry |

There are blogs of all kind of topics, you can find loads of them discussing the presidential election, astronomy, nuclear science, or any topic you could imagine. I have seen many blogs with PR7.
