Hold on to your hats - PR flux
PR seems to be fluctuating a lot today - so I anticipate things will stabilize shortly.

I hope you are right about the stabilization.
I can't figure out if all of the lost keywords we are seeing are penalties or a sign that the index is missing some data. |

Yes, My page rank for URL is flux. between pr 3 and pr 5. When I open a new browser windows and click my homepage I get a pr 5. But if I go forward then back to my homepage i end up with a pr of 3. I am guessing it has something to do with different google servers responding to the requests. I may be wrong.

Ways to increase PR.
Take a standard PR3 page (200 words, 2 pics, 2 links) increase text to 500 words with 5 pics and 10 links you now have a PR4 page. To increase to PR5 you need about 20 PR4 links and some traffic >2000 click/day. For PR6 page about 100 PR5 links or 1 PR7. |

cnovela,
Thanks for the insight. I didn't know that the pr can be attained by meeting these criteria. I find your post most useful. Any more interesting facts I should know about PR? |

I don't know what's going on, but I'm having trouble in Yahoo too. I went from #6 to #8, then to #9, and now I can't find my index.htm page when doing a search for my main keywords. I'm still in both directories, but it's not in the top 400. I didn't bother going any further than 400.
Google is the same way. The MAIN keyword for my site doens't produce any ranking for me. What the heck is going on? Is anyone else having trouble with Yahoo AND Google? |

Hey Guys,
After reading hundreds of posts it seems to be common concensus that Google has somehow corrupted some of its data and is attempting to repair it. Many Many sites are bouncing all over the place only to reappear an hour later. Give it some time, They will work it out. |

Well since last night, I haven't been on the map at all. I've been doing searches on Yahoo and Google so often it's ridiculous. I don't know wth is going on, but I tell ya, I'm scared! I've noticed my competitors have bounced a LITTLE but not much. I've bounced to tim-buk-tu! |

To Gecko, I checked and you are PR5.
I was trying to help you move from PR3 to PR5. That's our game, right? Google gets some of its info from the google toolbar. I try to check my PR everyday. One day it jumpped all the way to PR7 and then dropped back to PR5. One day I was sad to see a PR5 page listed as PR0, only to have my PR turned back on later in the day. Be patient/get links. |

Patience guys, if this little bump in the road is enough to worry you then you are in the wrong business. I have many, many sites that are nowhere to be found at the moment but I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. They will be back.

My site has been in the #1 or #2 position for my key search for years. About 3 months ago it went from #1 to #32 then to #11. I was in the process of totally redesigning and optimizing the site so I let this go.
I launched the new site about 2 weeks ago and went back to #1 in 24 hours! Now my site is nowhere to be found using my main keywords. I can only find it using secondary keys. My main compitition is at #1 for one search and in the 30s the next. The company that has been at # 3 is now #1. I've checked all the other Google servers and basically get these same results. Any ideas? Thanks... |

This is not accurate at all!
Sorry Cnovela but there is no wieght to these claims at all. Where are you geting the information on this criteria? PR is based on algo criteria that has nothing to do with word count, pic distribution or traffic FACT! PR a= (1-d) + d("PRt1/Ct1") "Ways to increase PR. (that are not true) Take a standard PR3 page (200 words, 2 pics, 2 links) increase text to 500 words with 5 pics and 10 links not true you now have a PR4 page. not true To increase to PR5 you need about 20 PR4 links and not true some traffic >2000 click/day. not true For PR6 page about 100 PR5 links or 1 PR7." not true but would likely work anyways I suggest you spend some time with the PR calculator it would really help you dispell some of these wivestales Good luck Last edited by seo guy : November 23rd, 2003 at 02:02 PM. |

Jman - How do you KNOW they'll be back? My story is the same as everyone elses. I was #3 and #5 in the results for my two top keywords, then I slipped to 53 and now I'm gone. Poof! I hear so many people say, relaaaaax, Google will straighten out and our sites will be back on top. But HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS? Sorry don't mean to shout. Maybe this is about money. Pure and simple. I've been doing Adwords for a long time now and believe me, I'm REALLY doing them now. Sheesh! Its like Googles got us by the short ones. |

Yep I have to agree with seo guy. The amount of trafic has nothing to do with your PR and the spec for your calculations are way to general.
My summary for PR is the following: The sum of the PR's of all incoming links / by the number of outgoing links of all those pages(incoming links). Seo guy check me on that. |

Not quite Rojo - here is the actual Algo:
PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn)) But placed in basic terms where PR(Tn) is "The sum of the PR's of all incoming links" and C(Tn) is the amount of links leaving the page both external and internal. And d=.85 as the dampening factor an verbal explanation is. The sum of all incoming PR/The total of both external and internal links outgoing from that page, multiplied by .85, plus .15 Thus if you have 1 page and no links the algo rights itself to a PR=1 which is how it should be for 1 page. (1-.85)+.85(1/1)=1 Hope that helps Cheers |
