After this wonderful PR update, which turned 3 of my websites into PR5s, I am now analyzing my backlinks. I find it very strange... my buddy icon site modifies it's pages every time I add more icons. The pages are in php, and look like www.iconcave.com/view.php?type=i&cat=73 I don't know much about PHP, but I think there are some type of dynamic pages, am I right? THe strange thing is that at Google another of my websites gets about 10 backlinks from these kind of pages, and all of them show a PR0.
I don't get it, I was sure that Google only showed backlinks with PR4 and above... Weird, uh?

I see one site with pr 0 has 10 backlinks, and some of them are pr 0, so I think maybe google show all the backlinks when you are under pr 3-4, and show some high backlinks when you are over pr3-4.
I think the purpose of backlink for google is to let users see some related websites, since no one will check all the related ones, only some important (high pr) or the same theme websites will be listed. I believe don't care too much about backlinks, they should up and down all the time. some one please correct me if I am wrong Last edited by happyallday : June 5th, 2004 at 09:12 PM. |

a lot of people seem to be of the school of thought that there is no "PR0" (unless you're greybar'd).
a PR0 just means the PR for that page hasn't been calculated/isn't being displayed publicly yet

Interesting that you should post this today Fryman. I was just about to post something similar. I had a webmaster contact me about a link exchange. They put my link on one of these PHP dynamic webpages and asked me to give them a link in return. At first I thought that there was no way this type of page would be indexed and was going to decline the exchange. After reading your post I am reconsidering. The page is at http://www.jobpier.com/linkdisplay.php?par=23&catid=8 Does this look like a page that can be indexed? What do you think?

Sometimes dynamic URLs display PR0 in the google toolbar when in fact they have and pass pagerank.

I just think that backlinks are messed up right now, suddenly there are many inconsistencies since the last update...
I disagree with happyallday - google shows related websites as a seperate function... and - until this latest update - almost all displayed backlinks were pr4+ and finally - they should go up and up all the time! I disagree with disgust too - I have seen many pr0 pages, some new, some old - some not yet calculated etc. gotalk - no that url cannot be indexed - Not because it's a php page (no problem with those - except google seem to be struggling lately with displayed pr for php pages imho) but because the url contains a ? Finally - I agree with nmalhot - as I said just now, google seem to be struggling with displayed pr for some php pages lately!

Thanks for your input ClickyB. I won't dispute what you are saying because I don't know a lot about dynamic web pages, but I think Fryman says that he's getting backlinks showing in G for these types of pages. Am I right Fryman?

My guess would be that if google returns any of the domains pages in a "site:search" it's not banned... so it's good - you just can't rely on the displayed pr for php pages right now I think! |
