I launced a new site on astrology . I want to use social bookmarking as a tool to increase page rank and traffic, what's the exact impact of social bookmarking over the page rank of a site. Explanation regarding this will be great for me. Thanks in advance.

None. PR is historical data based on many factors (Back links, trucst, etc.)
SBM will temporarily enhance your serp's though. rotate the pages that you bookmark every 45 days. MSN and Yahoo take around 30-40 days to reflect them and G takes 45-60 days.
Use onlywire or socialmarker (of the many that are out there) to speed up submissions, and if your really ambitious use firefox, Tor and FoxyProxy to mask your IP and open multiple SBM accounts.

Since PR is calculated on backlinks and some SB sites uses nofollow, this can't help in PR instead it can help in traffic.

I wouldn't worry that much about PR. I suggest that you focus more on your SERP as this will get you more organic traffic. Optimize for the keywords that you want to rank on - the ones that your target market would most likely be searching for in search engines.

bookmarking a site can generate traffic temporarily. You should follow MrCat's advice on prioritizing your SERPs ranking coz it's the best place that you can get targeted traffic in a much longer time

Social Bookmarking I think could help you boost a little traffic for your site from the start.

PR won't give you much traffic. So maybe the best thing to do is to have a good content.

Yes traffic, but that can lead to some links as well. Some of your visitors could end up blogging about yor site, if the content is really good. Otherwise socialbokkmarking doesnt directly affect PR.

Social bookmarking doesn't increase your PR but it will generate more traffic for your site. So if you want to increase your PR, you must rather look for a link exchange partner site that has high PR and related to your site's theme.

In case of PR relevancy is not a factor, any kind of links can increase your PR.

I use SB mainly for traffic and dont feel it has much if any affect on PR. SB is also a great way to get a page indexed. I can usually gain Googles attention within a day.
