David vs Golith
To the point;
I have a new website selling a product. There are several similar products all of who have established websites with multiple supporting websites and domains. They may even be moderators on forums that are relevant to this product. They have it all dialed.
What would be a viable strategy to get my product high in the search index with these competing products? Can anyone offer any advice I can do to get my product where it needs to be at #1?

To be #1 for your high product...hire someone and then you may still not #1 depending on what your high product is and your competition.

I am thankful for your answer... but hire someone is out of the option. I have gotten some books on the topic so I can do it all myself.
With a very mature seo campaign coming from multiple on topic web vectors.., how can I compete? Are there any strategies involved with overcoming this huge wall (or getting around it)?
Any advice for someone who has a lot of time but not a lot of $.

99% of the time Goliath wins the battle…. Why do you even think you have a chance of winning? Your next posts suggests you have no/limited budget.
What do you think Goliath is going to be doing when he sees you coming?
The answer to your question is probably to focus on long tail search terms or a particular subset niche within the area or a geo relevant target. These are all possible ways to beat the Goliaths in search. But if you want to beat something like Amazon for a generic search of ‘buy books’ then my advice would be forget it…
There is one method that can work that I know that is free/virtually free that is creating a piece of relevant content that goes viral…. But that is a very long shot…
