New information: Recent quote from Matt Cutts says that PR has a lot to do with how much Google trusts any given page. When Google Chrome got caught cheating Matt Cutts lowered their PR to indicate that Google lost some trust in the site.
If Google truly looks at PR as the primary indicator of how much they trust a certain page, would that not also affect where they would place the linked to page in the SERPs for a given search term?
If Matt Cutts is now saying that the PR level of any given page is the primary indicator of page trust by Google, has the SEO community been totally wrong on the importance of PR?

Its good that you saw an increase in page rank. Its a kind of trust factor by Google. But page rank has nothing to do with rankings. A PR 0 site can out rank a PR 4 site.
Page rank is mostly important for link builders, link sellers and advertisers who charge for links or advertisements (mostly links or banner) based on PR of sites. The higher the page rank the more costly it is.
You can sell link from your site to earn but take care not to over do it otherwise you will lose your rankings and traffic both.

Firstly, Congrats on the PageRank boost you have got. Now, I want to suggest you that you should continue doing what you were doing, so that you don't get a pullback in the pagerank. Also, I would suggest you to focus some high traffic, and decently rewarding keywords on your site. Cause your site has the potential of getting ranked faster than usual.

With regards to google position, it doesnt seem to have a big effect. My site was downgraded on its PR recently, and its google position on keywords remain on the first page, with many of the keywords still rising as well.
