    www.domain.com and domain.com - difference??

My site has been listed in google as www.domain. com, and was one of those sites that lost a good amount of pages in this update. It is now being listed as domain. com without the www, since some sites are linking to us that way and google picked up on that. Is there a difference between the two, as I believe google sees sites with subdomains other than www as being a different site. If so, how would PR be affected since 99% of our links are linked using the www and google is recognizing the site without the www? Thanks.

Yes, Google sees them as different. Check out the PR of www.ebay.com and then check out the PR of ebay.com, they are different.

Yeah, I understand that, since www.domain.com and www.domain.com/index.htm are different. But does this mean my back links should be linking to me without the www. now?

If it was me, I would start linking that way since Google is recognizing them that way.

Or, You could also contact the sites that are linking to you without the www and have them insert it for the next update.

Although it's possible to ask the other sites to change them, it's hard enough to get them to link in the first place. Do you think there is a way to have Google re-index us with the www. ?

    I know how that is.

The only way I know to have Google reindex you is to just have a bunch of links to your site. So you might just want to start having your site linked without the www, if that is how the majority of your current links are.

All of our backlinks use WWW except just a couple of them, the ones that Google came across first and decided to index us by. Errr, frustrating!
