Wondering about how to structure the links of my wordpress blog ...

    Hey all ..

I've got this wordpress blog.. wordpress allows you to structure your links as you like with a permalinks definition in the settings...

There are many combinations ... Now I've set it so that the address bar (where you type your URL) of the browser shows http://www.blogname.com/categoryname/posttitle

I don't know however if it's better to make it http://www.blogname.com/posttitle because when there's the same keyword in the post title as there is in the category name, then I'm afraid that the se's are going to see it as 'spammy' (is this actually the case ?) ...

Also while the adress bar shows me the link as I described above, the blue bar of the browser shows only the post title ...

So, my next question is : which URL is associated with optimization and is more important to the search engines ? The one in the address bar (where you type your URL) of the browser ? Or the one in the blue top bar of the browser ?

    Thnks,

I preffer the http://www.blogname.com/posttitle in general, but if your subject matter is too complex then you have no alternative but to use http://www.blogname.com/categoryname/posttitle [/QUOTE]

The blue bar at the top shows the <title> which is one of the most important elements in SEO.

Thanks for your reply ... So actually the http://www.blogname/categoryname/posttitle is the url that the crawler follows when crawling the blog ??

I use category/postname/ and I create category names which will attract related terms and post names which (fit) with the category (whenever possible)... But honestly I'm not sure it makes a heap of difference; I guess it depends on the site.

I generally take /postname and it works.

The only advantage in using /category/post I guess is that in the SERPs an aditional particular keyword might be highlighted e.g. /laptops/sony-vaio instead of just /sony-vaio when he is searching for "sony vaio laptop"
