below is the PROPER layout for your meta tags taken from this page:

    PHP Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <
    html dir="ltr" lang="en">
    <
    head>
    <
title>Why showing this following error? - SEO Chat</title>

    <
meta name="description" content="Why showing this following error?- Google Optimization. Visit SEO Chat to discuss Why showing this following error?" />
    <
meta name="keywords" content="Google, Optimization, Why, showing, this, following, error?" />
please note that these lines may differ on your site slightly depending on your markup:
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html dir="ltr" lang="en">
Also some claim that NO metas are just as good as good metas and better than bad metas. I agree about 70% with that (remember, this is a google specific forum). I think that if google is returning a poor description of your page you can counter that with the meta description tag.
OTHER search engines still use meta tags so I think that if you intend to target other search engines it is good to have them, although for us about 80-90% of our SE traffic comes from the big G.

dont bother with the META keywords ever....and the description ones can now be formatted without even using the META desc one too...use G to find out how...

so, far as we're concerned, dont bother with META anything....
