Anybody else notice both these sites are "rank sinks"?

When looking at these sites there are no links leaving from either of the sites ... this is something common to both oceanfinance.co.uk and moneysupermarket.com

I don't know if this has any bearing on their ranking ... but it is a common tactic of Made For Adsense sites (even though neither uses adsense ads).

I see few if any PR0/bans these days, pages just fall out of the SERPs, no doubt saves on spurious lawsuits/bad publicity...

I think they are banned. I do the web design and seo for a small loan client of mine and I couldn't find them at all today when I was doing a bit of research.

It sure looks like a ban. I couldn't find them anywhere for "ocean finance" in Google today - I know for a fact they used to be considered an authority by Google for this search term, much like "freedom finance".

I "ahem" track some of their keywords through DP keyword tracker and can actually see the point they disappeared (early april by the looks of it - the graphs a wee bit small!).

Definitely a ban by the looks of things.....stupid b's - how could a loan company have so many natural links? Impossible, unless they had just employed Osama Bin Laden in the call centre.

Not even bad news can generate this weight of links: (URL address blocked: See forum rules) - darn - OK - ENRON! - for example in Yahoo shows 20,000 links....

Talking

Losing authority status defo leaves them open to a loss in google positions & google traffic.

Try the term "ocean finance" in Google now....

I am wondering why oceanfiance and moneysupermarket get penalties, and sites being equally blatant like www.nortonfinance.co.uk don't ?

After being top 3 for terms like 'loans' its now not in top 100, its also ranking sub 50 for its own brand term last time I checked.

This is more than google flux.

I have used the term penalty not ban.

It looks there is a penalty applied to the site, the best way to make sure what is going on is to install Google site map and verefy your site and check the query section, if you dont rank in the top 30 for some terms that means there is a penal and what I see your are sure about the penalty as you most likely see zero traffic from Google in your STATS

Agree it is a penalty not a banned. I think that it might be some problems with the way that they got their links

Google more than likely de-valued many of their links because they are coming from non-relevant sites. Thus causing a drop in the rankings but not causing a ban.

Thee are some sites out there with a ton of inbound links that are from bogus sites and non-relevant sites.

Google may or may not catch the offenders. You do have the option to turn people in to the Google cops if you think a site is suspicious.

Hey Noj.. didn't i tell you that moneysupermarket was up to some tricks

I agree with you that Norton finance need to be penalised as they seem to share many of Ocean finances links, i'm sure it will only be a matter of time. I reckon uSwitch are on shakey ground too.

I think its obviously manual penalisation at the moment, so it's probably just a matter of time till someone at Google notices.

Noj agrees: id agree with you manual penalties, google sflexing its muslces at the moment, in ths market
