Why Am I NOT Ranking Higher??
Hello All,
I am new to this forum and very happy I found it! I am having a very difficult time understanding why I am not outranking some of my competitors for a particular keyword. I am currently ranked #11 in Google for this keyword. The number one competitor has zero inbound links to the page they are ranked for. I have 20 inbound links to this page with the following PR:
11 from PR0
3 from PR1
2 from PR2
2 from PR3
2 from PR4
all of these links have my keyword in the anchor text of the inbound link.
I would love some insight on this. Oh, and, my on page factors are in place as well, I have got the keyword in my title, keyword, and description as well as in the content of the page.
I really just don't understand. Any light you can shed would be fantastic!

What tool did you use to check the inbound links of your competitor?

Thanks a million!
I'm exaggerating to paint a picture:
If they have one link coming from a homepage with a keyword, and that original homepage has a million good links into it - that one link would carry a lot of 'juice' through that keyword.
Also your links might 'look' good to you, but if they are positioned/grouped with others, in such a way as to suggest 'paid for' they may carry no weight at all.
Your links could be 'nofollow'?
I'm sure there are many more scenarios, but that is what I can think of off the top of my head.
A pro may pop by and help a bit more authoritatively!
As a little 'aside' - 'Keywords' & 'Description' are irrelevant other than the description to aide 'click throughs'.

The problem is their domain name probably has more overall authority and age than yours, which is making their sub pages rank high even though the sub pages dont have many inbound links.
You need to keep working on your main url and your sub pages. You also need to seek out better quality links and be sure to mix up your anchor text.
Keep it natural and try and get links naturally using quality content and social media promotion.
