Im not sure whether LV is to blame, but I have only been using it about 2-3 months and my main site has been hammered this update too... losing many #1 and #2 positions and fading into nothing-ness.

Used to average about 30-40 orders a day on the site in question... now im averaging 7. Traffic is down majorly.

If i removed LV (if it is LV of course, thats caused this)... will results improve immediately, or will it be another 3 months till the next update before I see results (therefore, missing my busiest time of the year!!)

    Thanks

    Baz

It looks like "new" results from 66.102.9.104 - are spreading to all DC. After Jagger2/3 my sites using LV were #1, now i'm down to #600 !!.

Somebody somewhere must have had experience with Link Vault to share with us? I have asked this same question in a few posts now, and am yet to have anybody offer any experiences since Jagger. Come on guys... perhaps this is crucial?

Did your allinanchor drop as well? If so, it is an indication of links being devalued, in which case you need more links from other sources. If not, then maybe we can slam our competitors by pointing link vault links to them after all.

I would HIGHLY doubt you could slam competitors by throwing LV links at them. But, if your site was primarily powered by LV links, and Google was able to determine that and devalue those links, your site then has nothing powering it.

Man, I predicted this about 3 months ago, and not many people listened.

Google knows about this link scheme and they are penalized other people's site for using it.

Your best bet is to clean off the link vault code and do a reinclusion request, and also mention to Google you used Link Vault.

    • brandall agrees : I think it's just a matter of time.
    • rjonesx : Your link vault links may have been devalued, but it is highly unlikely that you were "penalized" - best method, though, is put LV on a disposable site, and use LV to build links to another you want to promote.

I posted this data in another thread. It would seemto me that if G were going to penalize sites for using LV, then they would penalize the sites that the links were on rather than the sites that the links were pointing to.

I have 12 sites with lv links on them, and if sites were going to be penalized it would be the sites that have the links on them, yet 9 of the sites rank for the following keywords:
    composition help #1
    beginner math #1
    english primer #5
    chemistry primer #2
    intro psychology #1
    intro grammar #1
    physics primer #7
    beginner writing #3
    intro biology #1
To be sure, they are not heavy competition keywords, but the first one has 49 million results and outranks many .edu sites. I mean, a penalty would be a penalty regardless of the competition, I would think.

Does anyone have any evidence at all of G penalizing lv sites?

<edit> watch, now it will turn out that I've jinxed myself and this thread will wind up outranking all of those sites for their keywords. </edit>

Michael, just curious, are those site solely powered by LV links or do they have many others as well?

Regarding reinclusion requests, Matt also made it clear that they were much more open to such requests from mom and pop sites than from large sites that clearly knew what they were doing. Also, he said they look favorably upon those who tell them which SEO performed the blackhat work (if any). <joke>So blame it on one of my competitors </joke> ;-)
