What's worse - long meta titles or duplicate meta titles?

I have a combination of both on my site and am trying to figure out which I should take care of first - the pages with lengthy titles or the pages with duplicate titles.

    I'd say duplicates.
There's speculation that with duplicate titles crawlers may be more hesitant to crawl the content, thinking it is duplicate.

Long titles will just cut off in engines around the 60 character mark.

Both short, focused title tags and unique title tags are important, but if you've got content that's not being crawled often, opt to change your duplicates up first, then optimize everything else.

Definitely solve the duplicate title problem first.

Both things are not ideal, but duplication is the bigger problem.

First off, what is a meta title ??? Meta titles don't exist my friend they're called title tag, a lot of people call it a meta title tag but it is wrong.

Now, to answer your question, duplicate titles are the worst ever. Anything that is duplicated whether it is content or title or whatever, it must be avoided at all costs ! And for lengthy titles, try shortening them because long titles are really not appealing to the human eye and you most probably won't get clicked on. Try keeping it short and precise and don't exceed 70 characters because that is all that will be shown in SERPs.
