What will Google do in 2014?

2012 and 2013 were huge for SEO. During these years we saw our whole industry turned upside down with the Panda and Penguin algorithms. What are some things that you think Google will do next year in 2014?

very excited to hear everyone's responses to this. I will add my thoughts after the first few others have been added.

I think we'll definitely continue to see shift to social media for driving rankings.

SEO did not change much in 2012/2013 - all that changed was Google's ability to deal with sites that had crap content (Panda) or crap links (Penguin). What constitutes good SEO is still the same as its always been. Its just those SEO kiddies who decided to see how far they could push thinks with crap content and crap links (spam) got turned "upside down".

I guess Google in 2014 will put more attention to content and once again content. Social Media as Google Plus will pick up more seo speed and will become one of the most effective ways for the site.

I think we'll see a more pronounced emphasis on mobile device readiness and more "tinkering" and small-scale experimentation from Google with the SERPs layouts themselves.

Things like Local Results, Rich Snippets and the Carousel all were previously spotted in smaller-scale trial runs before they were rolled out en masse - I think we can expect Google to keep fiddling some more in 2014.

    Google will focus on:

    1. Return to shareholders
    2. Steps to protect and increase market share
    3. Push the envelope on interactive search; both computer and mobile.
    4. Ignore the wishes of and the industry of SEO
    5. Continue to move away from keyword based search to a true user intelligence driven search

Assuming the above is true... SEO as a stand alone industry is dying. Start focusing on SEM with SEO as a subset only along with true online and alternate media marketing programs. If you are only doing basic SEO... you will die with the industry.

Current SEO methods still work on Bing/Yahoo, but who knows for how long.

I say the most obvious: They will continue to push organic results down.. #1 spot will be worth less and less.

I think that we'll also start to see a move over to the PPC side of things regarding content quality and keyword usage/spamming.

I also think rich snippets is more important than ever.

And really "making Google Analytics your b**$h" will be major.

I think that content has been winning for a long time.

I don't really think that a lot of SEO is dead, you just have to keep up with the changes.

As everything changes so also Google will also change its search engine algorithm and come with new updates and methods to give users more relevant search results.
