What Is A Good Aged Domain?

When it comes to a new website, how old does a domain need to be before you can expect to see no stupid drops and jumps in the rankings?

I'd say a good benchmark is around 3 months, but there's nothing that prevents a young site from ranking well right out of the gate (based purely on age).

It has nothing to do with age of a domain. Rankings and stability in the SERPS are primarily driven by page content and relevance, onpage SEO, and backlink profile.

I think he's talking about that "initial surge" that new sites get. You launch, get spidered, soar for a while, and then drop. I've found that buffeting subsides after 3 months (assuming your new site isn't wildly popular on its own).

It,s depend on how old is your domain age but if your domain is new then it will take some time. Because if domain is 3 to 4 years old & more then that then it means Google has trust on your website.

In my experience it is more like 6 months.

three months sounds good, but i have found with my own sites its more like six at a minimum.

samurai etc still show age of domain, because they believe it is relevant to ranking or the competitions power.

a word of warning though, - i was unable to provide much content or links to my sites for over six months, and because of that I think the sand pit is probably worse than when i started. I have worked hard for two months and seen little result.

So while age is important, and that is why people buy sites, you should see if google webmaster tools have reported any major problems with a site, and if the previous owners were posting regularly or just kept the domain alive.
