What domain name to choose?
Hi,
I have a domain name dilemma. All the domain names for my industry have been taken, even the three work combinations are gone. So lets say that I am a car dealer in Boston. Obviously using Google Trends etc, I would try to hind the phrase most used that contains “Cars” and “Boston”. I did not check the sample above here, but in my industry and location a CarBoston.com or a BostonCar.com are both gone. And being used by some spammers! So my question is, what am I left with? Is a Boston-Cars.com or Cars-Boston.com a way to go? Or is CarsInBoston.com a better option? … presuming Google would ignore a work ‘in’…? |

URls hav elittle influence in optimzation, links, PR or anything else which you will be working on to get good results. How about going for your company name?
IMHO domains such as cheap-used-cars-boston.com raise BS flags to a visitor. They immediately think who the heck are these guys. A more prfessional company would never buy a domain like that. Links content and all the other good stuff which go into SEO is what it is all about. |

Hay Guy,
It is very simple just choose a domain name which is most relevant to your business. Means your most targeted keyword will be best for your domain name. |

Hi dilip,
You are right but most of we should select brand name like brain pulse, bitscape. And promote our business and get well ranking in any search engines. So we should choose keywords in your interlinking. Like http://www.domainname.com/webdesign.htm. Regards, Rathod Raghuvir SEO(Search Engine Optimizer). |

The thing with URLs is that in search results, people scan them. In the SERPs searchers go down the results looking at the title, then the green URL (largely skipping the description). So, i think it is more important here to have a good and credible looking URL with the human audience in mind.
I associate domains-with-dashes-and-keywords as spam, but i don't think the average user would, remember we're not representative of the population. Nevertheless i'd probably avoid it. I think fathom's on the right track with differentiating. Brand yourself, make a name that includes "cars" or "Boston". A name is credible. Having keywords in the URL doesn't mean much, logically, quite low on scale of what will get you ranked high. Look at Cnet, Ebay to name a couple off the top of my head. They don't sell cnet's or Ebay's but rank well for product searches. They are well-linked and have good SEO practices. My point is that as far as domains go, the human is more important to consider than search engines, as in my first statement. Last edited by porcelain_duck : October 17th, 2006 at 10:44 AM.
