I think the focus of your question is not really that helpful. New content is simply that new content. Thus a new quote on a page is new content because it is new content…. Will this quote help your SERPs? Maybe if someone is looking for that quote or at least a few of the keywords in the quote ie the person who made the quote name.
So are you seeking to rank for the quote? If not how could this possibly help you….
To state the obvious what you need to add to your site is content other people are interested in. This can generate links and traffic.
So I am not quite sure what you mean by your question. If you are asking does adding content no one is interested in help your site. Probably not would be my answer.
So here is a quick list of ten effects that new content on a site can do for the site….
1) It can give a site greater ability to capture new keywords/long tails. The power of direct matches to search query should not be understated. If you have a direct match even a weak site can beat a strong one in the SERPs. Google always/mostly treats exact matches as more relevant then near matches. It is also true that direct long tail matches have better conversion rates.
2) New content can take advantage of the QDF filter (Query deserves freshness). This means adding new content about ‘hot’ topics may see those pages go straight to the top of SERPs. One method of gaining an advantage from this adding new content at specific times of the year when traffic for specific queries changes a lot may see you gain an advantage. Blogging about topical issues may have a better chance of going high in the SERPs.
3) New content means you can broaden your range of relevancies about your site. ie you can expand the range of products/services you sell.
4) New content can give you new sources of seeking links. Links bring both page and site benefits. Thus if the new content can get links it will help both that page and the rest of your site to do better in the SERPs.
5) Regular content updates give a reason for visitors to return to your site. Becoming a source of themed news can gain your site a following of loyal readers.
6) New content will encourage SE spiders to visit your site more. So regular new content will see the additions of new content get into the SERPs quicker. This can be an advantage in relation to the QDF filter.
7) New content keeps you focused on your site. Adding new content means you are staying actively in the game. You are seeking to improve your site.
But new content also has disadvantages…
8) New content spreads your existing link juice more thinly. New pages need their own juice to rank. The more pages the more juice you need. Adding new pages without adding new juice may see other pages on your site fall from the index or go into the supp index.
9) New content if of low to average quality can result in those entering your site to judge the site as a site of low or average quality. This can hurt your ability to close a sale or convert.
10) New content can cause you to loose focus on what does matter.
Quality content is what helps SERPs really. ie one excellent piece of linkable content that takes a year to create is better for SERPs that adding a couple of average articles that no one reads each weak. If new content means you focus on quantity rather then quality and waste you time creating stuff no one is interested in then it is worse then useless. It is stealing your time. The main two resources a person has are ‘time’ and ‘money’. If you are going to waste one of them go for the money. It can be replaced…..
Thus my advice in a general sense is make your site a quality site... Add quality content… If the new content is of the quality that other people will want to visit add it. If not do not add it..
Good luck
