Question What anchor text is more useful - exact keyword, or some word (2 words) + keyword?

At the moment I am doing SEO for one site, and as the topic is competitive enough, I am also buying links from other sites.

So my question is - what kind of links are more useful to place on other sites?

For example, I am targeting the word "vodka" and I want to be TOP10 in Google for that keyword.

So, what is more powerful to place on other sites:

    1. exact keyword in the anchor text of a link. e.g. - vodka

    2. some word + keyword. e.g. - real vodka

    3. 2 words + keyword - real Russian vodka

Thanks you for any help you can provide.

    Buying Links

It is my understanding Google is penalizing sites that purchase links.

    Be careful.

It is a practice I avoid.

    Anchor Text

I am by no means an expert, but I would suggest you place you links on relevant sites.

Choose the anchor text you wish to rank with (i.e. Vodka or Russian Vodka).

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the reply, VegasMack!

Does it penalize or not - is not the question of that topic though.

Ok, If we speak just about backlinks in general, what anchor text is it better to target (for any links - reciprocal, paid, links in press releases, etc)...

I would say go with a mixture of different links. Try to keep it varied as far a recips, some bought, one way, three way and directories.

Make your main keyword your inbound anchor text 80% of the time and the other 20% make slight variations, such as plurals, and other variations. It is sometimes good to use synonyms as well, this is according to the Latent Semantic Indexing concept.

    Anchor Text

Use the word or phrase you wish to rank in. Be it 1 word or a 4 word phrase.

Although credit is given for Vodka in an allinanchor search by using (Russian Vodka), the SERPs will not reflect your allinanchor ranking like it would if you just used Vodka. While your allinanchor ranking could be #4, your site ranking in the SERPs could be #14.

Or if your target is “Russian Vodka” that is what you would use.

I usually alternate for 3-4 keywords to keep it "natural" looking, with another few phrases thrown in for good measure. Right now I think you can get away with quite a bit of repetition, but I'm planning for the future.

And about purchasing text links, not a problem right now. Like GCChaney said, how would google determine if you purchased the link or not? It's impossible as far as I know.

It is not possible to understand if a link has been purchased or not. But Google can decide to devaluate some links with specific characteristics, purchased or not.

If Retrieval would create dozen of backlinks using just three or four anchor phrases, it would be very easy to mark those links as "suspicious".

He/she should try to simulate a more realistic distribution, using also plurals, synonyms, misstyped words, and just the URL of his/her website. That would be a more natural behaviour and, in the event that Google will devalue some "suspicious links", he/she will risk nothing.
