    That's being too literal. You actually come to the same conclusion: Quality content earns links therefore quality content is links therefore quality content is SEO. I think the point is that it is better to spend resources creating content that will earn links than on link building itself.

    Yes, there is still a place for hunting broken links and other clean tricks. When I get an email telling me I have a broken link and offering me an alternative I see it as positive. If the alternative content is good quality I will update the link to that and it all makes the web a better place.

    But ... overall the vast majority of our resources, when we SEO a website, are focused on the content and user experience improvements ... and it works medium and long term.
