Hi.
I searched on SEOChat but didnt find answer to my question... So, I am posting it here: Q. Can I RE-USE the OLD PAGE which I 301 Redirected to a NEW PAGE? Let me explain: Can I 301 REDIRECT my home page to a domain.xxx/new_page/ and then reuse the HOME page by putting up a different page there? If this doesnt explains what I am doing... Read Below =========Very Detailed Explaination.. Dont get bored Suppose I own a web hosting company which used to deal in DEDICATED SERVERS ONLY. But recently, I have introduced: - Shared Hosting - VPS Hosting - Reseller Hosting and so on. So, I want to add new pages to my domain with a special page for each new segment I have introduced. - One for Shared - One for VPS - One for Reseller - One for DEDICATED But till now, on the HOME PAGE, I had listed only DEDICATED SERVER. Now I want to list all the packages on this HOME PAGE. This home page was doing really well till now and getting alot of leads per day. ================================= Question: Can I Redirect the existing 'Dedicated servers' HOME PAGE to a Domain.tld/dedicated/ and after Google has indexed the new Dedicated Page, I will reuse the HOME PAGE which lists all the packs there? Will it work? Or there is a possible loss of leads and rankings here? Sorry for a long long post. Thanks alot Ricky |

I guess it's possible to redirect a page, wait until Google has picked up the new URL and then remove the redirect and put new content on that page.
However, if people linked to the old page - and for a homepage, that is most definitely true - then those backlinks won't follow and make the move. That means, after you remove the redirect, those links would be pointing at the new, i.e. wrong, page and the page for dedicated servers only would lose rankings quickly. My first, spontaneous idea to solve the problem would be to place a link somewhere on the homepage and advertise your other hosting opportunities that way. You could of course use an image link which can take a lot of space on your homepage and thus would be easily noticed, but at the same time, a SE spider won't put too much weight on it. |
