Exclamation Transfering a forum to a new domain

I currently run a webmaster forum which is set up on our company site...

We want to purchase a new domain that is stricly just for the forum.

The only problem, is that we already have thousands of pages indexed by google and other major search engines. On top of this, we rank #1 on MSN for "webmaster forum" and top20 on Yahoo.

How should I go about doing this so my old users can be directed to the new forum and have any indexed links in a search engine redirect the user to the new forum.

I was thinking of domain pointing, but will this get me into trouble with SEO?? Having two identical sites on two different domains (but the same IP)????

What if i keep the current forum running and just purchase a new domain. Then point that domain to the current forum...

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain that there isn't any safe way to move everything over. I would just redirect the domain to your forums, rather than actually moving over the files and databases.
