toolbarqueries.google.com

How do you find the ch # for your site to see the page rank (for those of us on a Mac that can't get a toolbar)?

Here's an example, toolbarqueries.google.com.

If you change the number or the URL, then you get a permission error message.

I doubt you can get it on a Mac. On Windoze, after you visit a site with the toolbar installed, you can check the folder Temporary Internet Files and get the value from a string that starts ...
search?client=navclient ....

If you replace the &features=Rank parameter with the following it also gives you the Google directory category ...
&features=Rank:FVN

If you omit the &features=Rank parameter altogether you get an XML feed, which I believe was used with earlier versions of the Toolbar.

How does the toolbar know the "ch" parameter then?

It's some sort of checksum parameter, probably generated BY the toolbar as you browse different websites.

I tried to find this when i was using my mac, but kinda just gave up.... It really sucks that they dont make the toolbar for mac users. Especially since they are growing in popularity.

I've got you on my toolbar at PageRank 6 which is pretty good.

BTW, just a suggestion, but you may want to add in your tutorials a section on making pure Flash pages search engine friendly. They rarely get high rankings unless certain specific SEO measures are taken.

Hi,

thanks for the input, but i know my PR this month. I just wanted to know the link when i'm on other machines that don't have the google bar. I don't know how to check my outgoing logs and see the link that toolbar uses to check my site's PR.

If anyone can check it, please post it. Thanks!

Gringo: what means the expression: Rank_1:1:5 exactly? Ok. I know it means PR5 but what happens with 1:5.

Mario,

I'm not sure we're supposed to know the answer to that. We have to keep guessing

We just need to accept that the last figure represents the PR. Also try doing the query without "Rank" in the "Features" variable:

http://216.239.33.100/search?client=navclient-auto&ch=5216959803&features=&q=info:http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Efree%2Dflash%2Dtemplate% 2Ecom%2F

and you should see a more advanced XML response!

And in that XML feed you'll find the parameters that are set to 1. Don't know what they mean, though - and I've never seen any other value.

Gringo.
