They used my copy with my links

    Hi,
I started seeing a funny referral in my analytics and found someone had copied one of my pages almost
word for word including the links that point back to my site. Could this cause my site any harm?

Hi Jerry, interesting... It doesn't sound like a random content scraper (those never result in referral traffic!)
Since this website is referring traffic, it cannot be the worst thing that could have happened... I'd still try to contact those guys and ask them why they are using your content without obtaining your permission first... Are they citing you as the source? I'd recommend them using cross-domain canonical tag to point to your page as the original source of the content
Everything will be ok in the end

If it's not ok, it's not the end

    Thanks Ann,
From time to time I'll find a small auto repair site owner that uses my copy, and every time my wife wants me to call them too. I just don't know why I should spend the time, it's not like it's a hit song. The guys that use my words are very small auto shops from way out of my local area. As long as it won't hurt my seo efforts I kind of consider it a vote for my copy.

Well, it may become a problem when the stolen content ranks higher than your original copy...

    • Pierre Benneton agrees : Unfortunately yes... Check your domains age and authority if you are higher you might be ok, but you should still contact them and have that content removed
