    Is there a redirect type acceptable to Google?

    Can anyone please help with an Example of a redirect which is acceptable to Google?

    I am not seeking to do anything sneaky, e.g. redirect to any unrelated page.
    I just don't want it to appear obvious that it's an affiliate link, given that many folks avoid affiliate links, e.g by reading the bottom line of their browser, then typing the merchant's url into the address line.

    Thanks in advance

    I need one too...

    I use iframe and the pages get really good positioning, however when the visitors click on the page they get the page without the main page who host the iframe which is very anoing so I build a script that shows a layer when the page is "ontop" with a link to my main page.

    I used redirect before and google was ignoring the pages , what kind of redirect script can I use so google will still index the pages?

    Some ideas:

    1. Use javascript to replace the status bar comment
    2. Use javascript for the whole redirect (ie. with on-click)
    3. Use a redirect page and hide it from Google using robots.txt.

    Here is what I'm using:

    Create a page redirecting to your affiliate url with a <head>
    section containing:

    <META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW">
    <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="1;URL=http://your_affiliate_url">

    and some text in the <body> like: "Click HERE if not promptly
    redirected", with "HERE" linking to your affiliate URL.

    Then, put a link to this page on the page where you make your
    sales pitch. If you don't want your prospect to leave this sales page
    use target="_blank".

    It is a bit clumsy but I didn't find anything better. The user doesn't
    have the time, normally, to catch your affiliate url in the address
    bar.

    Of course you track every redirection page. So you compare with
    your merchant's affiliate's traffic stats and find out which ones are
    robbing you (the majority in my experience...).

    Funny note: when I started using this system for all my affiliate
    links, I first neglected to put the NOINDEX instruction and I noticed
    that Google indexed some of my redirection pages, BUT:

    - the title, description, etc was from my merchant's front page I
    was redirecting to.
    - however the url given was the url of MY redirection page on MY
    site; also, the site's title on Google's page linked to MY redirection
    page !!!
    - best of all, I sometimes ranked ABOVE my merchant.

    In other words I unvoluntarily fooled Google's algo which, at least
    in this respect, has still room for improvement...
    This was about 3 months ago, however, since I am an honest guy,
    I later included the NOINDEX instruction.

    Hope this helps

    OK, I not technical.
    Let's say I use Mr.Web's idea #3, and want to block all spiders from accessing my site's redirect files in a directory called /home/, is the following correct for my robots.txt file??:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /home/

    Can someone confirm or correct me please.

    Many thanks

    I use this Java for redirect on Google, and my Pages are in the Index:
    Put this beetween <head> and </head> :
    <script language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    function RVMWOVPV_go() {
    for (var i=0; i<(RVMWOVPV_go.arguments.length - 1); i+=2)
    eval(RVMWOVPV_go.arguments[i]+".location='"+RVMWOVPV_go.arguments[i+1]+"'");
    document.RVMWOVPV_back= false;
    }
    //-->
    </script>

    Then create a body-tag like this:

    <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" link="#0000FF" onLoad="RVMWOVPV_go('parent','http://www.youreurl.com');return document.RVMWOVPV_back">

    You can change RVMWOVPV to what you want.

    I use this script a long Time and Google always lists the Site.

    Hope it is useful.

    It a bit more complicated than that....

    I used the ontop script
    since the pages load into an iframe so when they load alone the layer with my home page link pops up. when they load into the Iframe the layer does not show

    If i will use the redirect script then I will end up loading my main page into the iframe which will do no good at all....

    Is there a way to use this redirect script only when the page is "ontop"

    any javascript expert here?

    <script language="javascript">
    adTime=10; // seconds ad reminder is shown

    chanceAd=1; // ad will be shown 1 in X times (put 1 for everytime)

    var ns=(document.layers);

    var ie=(document.all);

    var w3=(document.getElementById && !ie);

    adCount=0;

    function isTop() {

    if (self == top)

    initAd();

    else

    return;

    }

    function initAd(){

    if(!ns && !ie && !w3) return;

    if(ie) adDiv=eval('document.all.sponsorAdDiv.style');

    else if(ns) adDiv=eval('document.layers["sponsorAdDiv"]');

    else if(w3) adDiv=eval('document.getElementById("sponsorAdDiv" ).style');

    randAd=Math.ceil(Math.random()*chanceAd);

    if (ie||w3)

    adDiv.visibility="visible";

    else

    adDiv.visibility ="show";

    if(randAd==1) showAd();

    }

    function showAd(){

    if (ie){documentWidth =document.body.offsetWidth/2+document.body.scrollLeft-20;

    documentHeight =document.body.offsetHeight/2+document.body.scrollTop-20;}

    else if (ns){documentWidth=window.innerWidth/2+window.pageXOffset-20;

    documentHeight=window.innerHeight/2+window.pageYOffset-20;}

    else if (w3){documentWidth=self.innerWidth/2+window.pageXOffset-20;

    documentHeight=self.innerHeight/2+window.pageYOffset-20;}

    adDiv.left=documentWidth-200;adDiv.top =documentHeight-200;

    setTimeout("showAd()",100);

    }

    function closeAd(){

    if (ie||w3)

    adDiv.display="none";

    else

    adDiv.visibility ="hide";

    }

    onload=isTop;

    </script>

    Personally, I NEVER use any Javascript in any of my pages. Just one more thing that can trigger security concerns on a client browser ...

    As for using your affiliate link; I use a click tracking script, which counts visitors, then redirects to a page that, via .htaccess, sends a visitor to the proper affiliate product ... As mentioned earlier, the directory that those final pages are located in is blocked to all spiders via robots.txt ...

    Hope this helps

    It will not work for me since I use iframe which is different from normal frame

    However the last time I used this redirect script google didnot index the pages.

    This is very weird I will try that again to see if google will index the page

    Thank you
