is there an archive of past google rankings for various queries?

is there an archive of past google rankings for various queries?

i have a client who insisted on doing their own SEO; they claim to have dropped from the 1st page to 100+ a month ago for 2 popular and competitive terms. from what i can tell they aren't doing anything spammy or against guidelines (as they claim to have changed nothing structural and changed very little content wise).

since i've never recorded a ranking report for them i'm wondering if there is a way i can discover what results looked like 2 months ago?

i know i'm asking for a lot... but who knows...

    thanks

It might be a sandbox issue and not related to normal seo/ranking criteria. Did they change/update their domain registration info in any way?

mick, I changed the admin contact on one of my sites (several years old and well entrenched on many good SERPs). The site got sandboxed for a couple of months and I didn't change anything significant from a content/SEO perspective. It came back from the sandbox and all old SERPs have been restored. YMMV.

I am not sure it make a difference but i have no evidence either way.
It could have been coincidence but it is a spooky one if it was.

It would be cool though. It would definately help me when I bring old sites back to life just to see if there were any areas they used to be succesful in. A lot of my work is in site rebuilds.

Oh, I forgot to mention, while past SERPs are not recorded anywhere, the site should have log files showing traffic history. You may no be able to determine the exact rank the site had for a keyphrase, but you can compare incoming traffic for the keyphrase past, present and future.

Of course, IMO, a more important metric to compare are the site's conversions...

    well thanks anyhow...

we use webposition for ranking reports... but this particular client does their own seo, so we never did ranking reports for them... they are wishing they had either done so themselves or paid us to do so.

anyhow... i had to ask... not like i really expected anyone to have an 8 billion page backup of google serps over the past 3 updates or so... but if they did i'd pay for a few of those results.
