Very intresting question.

seams to be only in the actual words / combination of words directly used in the anchor tex

*Good question* !!

Cheers,

I agree on this topic 100% I recently purchased 200,000 backlinks from 1 site, and when google saw this, they took my serps from #1 to around the 5th page. ON EVERYTHING! I was getting around 2000 unique vistors a day from google now im getting around 130. I hope this is only a week or two week thing, since then I have removed that sidewide link. Lucky for me Yahoo still gives me 1000 a day.

Thanks,

Michael

I just want to make sure I understand what you are talking about.

If I´m a webdesigner and put a link on every page of my customers website to my website (lets say - webdesigner.com) and I have 20 customers, all pages going into my webdesign.com my site would get panalized???

Hmm,

According to what happened in the test only variations of the exact anchor text were affected. So it depends on what you say in the link.

Either way i would use a java link to be safe after all your advertsing not doing seo with that method.

Cheers,

This is a question about a different form of sitewide link. Do you think having a set of links at the bottom of every page that are internal, pointing to another page on the site, would effect rankings in the SEs? I had a site that was #1 in MSN for almost all the keywords I had in those links. Then MSN decided to kill my rankings for all of them.

web gazelle, absolutely not. they can not penalize for internal navigation links.

im still not convinced they are penalizing for incoming site wides. more tests need to be run prior to coming to false conclusions. what happened with the other members that are testing this theory?

JW -

Chat is testing this now but it will require a full deepcrawl and update before results are known ...

it hit at a bad time with all 3 search engines spidering the linking site and picking up the sitewide quickly.

Just to add my 2 cents - even though I'm not active on this forum at all - on some terms on a site of mine all I got was an unrelated site-wide link and that alone boosted me to some top positions in a few terms that weren't overly competitive (it turns out that these terms didn't make me any money though, probably why there wasn't much competition). But, it was all just from an unrelated site-wide link - and it was in a HUGE list of unrelated site wide links from this site... about 100.

randomizing links

I've got a ring of websites and I use some simple php to try and get round this problem, with something like

<?php
$a1 = "<a href='(URL address blocked: See forum rules)>keyword</a>";
$a1 = "<a href='(URL address blocked: See forum rules)>keyword2</a>";
$a1 = "<a href='(URL address blocked: See forum rules)>keyword3</a>";
$number = rand(1,3);
$choice = "a$number";
$ToOpen = ${$choice};
echo $ToOpen;
?>

The idea is that they wont be site wide, and they will be constantly updating. Do you think google will work out what im doing? They've been up for a couple of years and seem to work ok.

If you have Adsense site wide is that not a site wide link to Google?

"If you have Adsense site wide is that not a site wide link to Google?"

Here, the discussion is about sitewide text links. Google Adsense uses only script based URLs. I think, script based links are okay with search engines as they do not pass PR.
