The display of search results in Google
The display of search results in Google
Does anyone know how Google decides what should be the description of the search result when it indexes the page? I thought it displayed the relevant part of the content, but for some reason (from what I can see) this applies only to my website's home page ( http://www.fantasy-fan.org ), while the articles are displayed with the general description in META tag see results of search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fan+fantasy+avatar (the first search result). Both the main page and the articles have exactly the same structure with META description, so what would be the deciding factor for Google which information to display? The general description for the website is ok for the index page, but not good enough for articles... Can anyone help? |

Hi, First i think Google will use your Meta description. if you have no tag, it will take a snippet of your content if you dont have a listing on DMOZ.org. I may be wrong here. bil |

Don't get me started on DMOZ
I've been trying to get the site registered there for good 5 years... I re-apply every 8-16 months, never heard a word back. *sigh* so, no DMOZ entry. The Meta description is the same on the main page and the articles. So how come the main page shows relevant text and the articles only the meta-description? I think this may be the cause why I'm still not getting back the number of google entries I had before switching CMS - the result with general description seems not very relevant to the user search |
