That "page one" feeling
After months of working with our favourite client we have finally got him onto the first page for his key wishlist keyword. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy either, full of enthusiasm, eager to listen to ideas and put in the hours.
Mainly seem to have got the results via them doing an optimised, sensible, active, user orientated site with good keyword density whilst we blog, press release, promote and bookmark to within an inch of our lives. At least 96 sites elbowed out of the way and the only two above him are pretty ropey and rubbish....As far as I can tell the only thing they have going for them seems to be their domain age and the fact that our target keyword is in the url. Can't really do much about that except keep plugging away but it's a bit annoying. I suppose now the only way is down and me getting moaned at lots. ;) |

The great thing is that it couldn't happen to a nicer guy...some of our clients are just not nice to work for but these guys are spot on.

The best clients are the ones who genuinely appreciate the success of creeping up the SERP's. Because SEO is so measureable, it can give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside when it all goes to plan. However it can make you nauseous when it isn't working out. That's why it's so much fun.... Well done...#1 spot next |

If you are offering a discount or a sale or special offers - announce them on your page title and steal traffic from the 2 sites above you

It's not really a sale thing they are selling but there is things like a free trial I can advertise. That's a good idea, I can look at the area that is getting snippeted and it in around there. That is a good idea. It's odd because the sites we've jumped above are the big hitters whereas the ones that are in one and two position are fairly small (Our guy is an ambitious mid-table player). The big guys are totally out-muscling us out of the PPC market on this term (It has a good CTR and Conversion rate but a hideously expensive CPC) but seem to be leaving the way clear on the natural side of it. |
